The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in implementing replay systems.
Video review systems will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Athletes will gain the right to contest particular rulings made by the official, mirroring the protocol currently in use at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move follows just a year after the All England Club rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to re-examine specific situations, including:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can initiate.
A Recent Example
An illustrative example took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
This technology aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.
Additional Innovations
A further change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where fans have occasionally been unsure if a ball was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
